If the stock market lately feels like you’re stuck on an elevator ride piloted by someone who can’t decide between floors, you’re not alone. Investors are nervously toggling between “Make Investing Great Again” optimism and fears of escalating tariffs, interest rate hikes, and global uncertainties.
Microcap investors have been feeling this volatility especially hard, as small stocks got dragged down sharply amid recent pullbacks in major small-cap benchmarks like the Russell Microcap Index (IWC) and Russell 2000 (IWM). Even quality stocks have not been spared, as the MSMqi has fallen sharply alongside the indexes.
But while others panic, we see opportunities—especially when good companies are unfairly lumped in with selloffs. For example, from my discussion with the CEOs of Firan Technology Group Corporat (OTC:FTGFF) and Intouch Insight Ltd. (OTC:INXSF) last week, we learned that the Canada-based companies may actually benefit from trade wars! Let misinformation be a source of alpha for your portfolio.
Accordingly, we launched Buy on Pullback Portfolio #13 near the end of the day on Friday.
Recognizing that markets often overreact, we’ve carefully handpicked a basket of 8 microcap stocks that have gotten beaten up over the last few weeks, some declining to prices that we thought we would not see again. Four stocks are trading at P/Es of ~10x on run-rate EPS. We might be early and a little off on our timing, but we did not want to get greedy at prices that we see as being considerably reasonable.
