We hope you were able to enjoy your weekend and are refreshed for another week of discovery and ongoing research. Speaking of discovery, on Friday we decided to include a stock to our Select Longs Model Portfolio Disclosures. Having recently come out of an interview with management, accompanying the disclosure was a Reasons for Tracking (RFT) research note in which we conveyed a complete list of our initial comments supporting our move like clean capital structure, strong financial performance, operational expansion, and great insider ownership, to name a few. We are working to set up a Fireside Chat with the company in the near future.
We also added to our position in a specialty pharmaceutical company this past July 25, 2022 after speaking with the company’s CEO in a Live Fireside Chat. We are hoping to catch some of the upside that we believe exists, even after the stock has consistently attained new highs since October 2021.
This brings us to why it is so important to join us in our live events like the Fireside Chats and Management Morning Briefings. The Fireside Chats are by invitation only, and are intended to accomplish several things like:
- Learning about company management and their histories, qualifications and goals
- A conceptual understanding of the companies in general
- Question and answer sessions that both we and our members can take a part in
- Garner any new bits of information that might make for actionable moves on our part
The briefings are more focused and usually shorter in length in that they are for quick updates on certain events that are substantially important for us to understand so we can process the information in the context of what these developments might mean for the bigger picture.
We think you’d probably agree that these events are essential to our research, which is why we are always trying to schedule them at a greater frequency and clip out/interpret the most interesting parts.
In 2022, a total of 15 Fireside Chat and Morning Briefings captured an average peak return of 25.74%. The catch is that you would have had to have perfect timing, a virtually impossible feat.
But at least we gave ourselves a fighting chance in this tough market, keeping in mind not to stray from our primary goal – research, research, research – to fill up our pipeline of potential multibaggers when the momentum crowd comes back, especially when others have given up. To remind you, Peter Lynch said, “The person that turns over the most rocks wins the game”, and we’re on the trail of as many as we can fit in our bucket.
Our peak stat also underscores why it’s important to try to attend these virtual events live, because it may offer you a chance to capture some short term returns and increase your alpha.
Now that many of these stocks have pulled back significantly, we are assessing if an opportunity has been created!
