Amazon Just Acquired Whole Foods
Amazon.com Inc. (NMS:AMZN) just acquired Whole Foods Market Inc. (NMS:WFM), like an anaconda swallowing its prey. The move sent WFM shares up 29% while other publicly traded supermarkets like SuperValu Inc. (NYSE:SVU), Kroger Company (NYSE:KR) and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) shares fell sharply. They are scared of the big snake entering their jungle. As they should be.
Because AMZN plans to aggressively attack the food to home delivery market as a logical extension of their empire. And that big snake is still hungry, looking for more companies to eat, which could include other delivery type services as no one has their capabilities in this space.
