Yeah, another report based on garbage used to bring out fear. Same thesis was applied to Avg Technologies (NYSE:AVG) which also backfired.  Have you looked at Comstock Holdings (NASDAQ:CHCI) or Xerium Technologies (NYSE:XRM) yet? Both look like they want to keep running. They are in the beginning of seeing the effects of restructuring moves bear fruit.

I have not valued Lyon William Homes (OOTC:LWHS) yet, but its in the right sector to catch investor interest and  the turn around seems to be working as evidenced by details in recent press releases.

• Home sales revenue increased 67% to $98.6 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2012, as compared to $59.0 million for the comparable period a year ago. Home sales revenue increased 26% to $261.3 million for the year ended December 31, 2012, as compared to $207.1 million for the comparable period a year ago.

In general I like to play the favorable odds that superior price performance will eventually occur for fallen angel Chapter 11 plays of recognizable companies. I think a price or EV to sales analysis may be appropriate in turn around situations.   I will calculate these ratios ASAP.

Spectrum Brands Holdings (NYSE:SPB) and  China Crescent Enterprises (OOTC:CCTR)  are just two examples of highly successful Chapter 11 stories. Take a look at their charts.  As for Overseas Shipholding (OOTC:OSGIQ), i have rarely come across a situation such as this one where common equity did not suffer in the reorganization. I will read the Star Buffet, Inc. (NASDAQ:STRZ) article.  You should also catch up on the Viskase Companies (OOTC:VKSC) chapter 11 play. Carl Ichan is all over this one. I am long LWHS and VKSC.

Joe, thanks for the heads up. Reuters had the estimate of $0.32 which is the number a member of our team who issued the update referenced. I agree with your  "added statement." We were in a rush to get the email out and I did not have a chance delve deeper into release. But I did listen to the conference call which was bullish.

Joe, Nq Mobile (NYSE:NQ) really came through on earnings.

I think a shareholder fight will be challenging. What is fair value in a market that does not trust Chinese companies? I am also curious if the VIE structure would also play into the valuation scenario. Minority shareholders (or some outside investor) needs to make a better offer.

I really did not delve into the story yet. Just noticed that the company is profitable and that the stock is hitting new highs. Seems risky on the surface, but wondering if a silver lining exists.

Are you basing a Global-Tech Advanced (NASDAQ:GAI) short trade on fundamentals or technicals?  The company recently divested one of its operations, so we would need to consider what the future looks like with its new focus.

• John C.K. Sham, the Company's President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our electronic components business increased approximately 49% in the second quarter of fiscal 2013, compared to the same corresponding period in fiscal 2012. The growth of this business in the first half of fiscal 2013 has more than offset the loss in net sales resulting from our exit from the home appliance business during this period.”

If we look at numbers from the current operations on an apple to apple basis what looked like a weak 2013 through the first 6 months from a bottom line perspective was not as bad as reported. Clean EPS was $0.31 vs. a loss as opposed to $0.08 vs. a loss.  

i still need to work out the clean number for the 2013 second quarter. But in general, the numbers may be better than what they appear to be.

Since EPS will not be recurring I think the way to value this in on a cash per share basis. So if the market was willing to value Renewable Energy Group (NASDAQ:REGI) at "x" times cash before announcement, it should now be worth "x" using same multiple on new cash balance.

Alpha, since you are taking a look at special situation plays I am wondering what you think about K-V Pharmaceuticals (OOTC:KVPHQ). We would need to check if equity is going to be canceled during the Chapter 11 proceedings. The company has had a few positive developments of late.

Joe, We had looked at this last year. Maybe its time to pull the trigger: here was our note:

• North American biodiesel producer. Completed IPO in early January 2012. Need to figure out non gaap EPS numbers but appears to have a GPR of 8. Stock has yet to trade significantly above its IPO price. Combine this with only a PE of 7 on 2012 EPS estimates of $1.50 could lead to higher stock price in the near term.

Stock really never did anything at that time.

It looks like it may have missed 2012 analyst estimates, . The 8k news is interesting.  You think the market will recognize the payment since its only a one time payment?  might make for an interesting article.
